If you’ve spent any time in Akron, you know about Luigi’s Pizza. If you haven’t, let me introduce you to one of the best spots in town. This place has been serving up amazing pizza since 1949, and it’s got the kind of history that makes you feel like part of something bigger just by walking through the door.
My parents ate here when they were in college at The University of Akron, and decades later, it’s still a go-to for locals, visitors, and anyone who appreciates a solid pizza. Most of the staff have been there for decades. Now, my husband Scott and I go a few times a year to carry on the tradition.
The walls are lined with celebrity photos—some have probably been there longer than I’ve been alive—but let’s be honest, the real star here is the food.
Their pizza? Perfect. Their bread? Legendary. But here’s a little tip: If you’re looking for a light lunch, you can grab a slice and a salad—just the right amount of food without feeling like you need a nap afterward.
Love salad? Get a single or double salad with cheese. It's basically a little bit of lettuce, a few olives, a radish slice or two, tomato wedge and cheese! I mean cheese! loads of shredded mozzarella cheese piled high.
And if you want to bring the magic home, they’ve got half-baked pizzas to go. Pop one in your oven, and it comes out looking just like it does in the restaurant—crispy, cheesy, and downright delicious. I've been known to bring about 10 half-baked pizzas back to Ashland for friends of mine that love Luigi's pizzas.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or a first-timer, Luigi’s is one of those places that never disappoints. Just be ready for a wait if you go at peak hours—it’s worth it.
